First Scan

Capture your first point cloud with Lixel K2

Your First Scan

This guide walks you through your first capture with the Lixel K2.

Before You Start

Ensure you have:

  • βœ“ Fully charged battery (plus the spare)
  • βœ“ LixelGO app installed and connected
  • βœ“ Phone attached via the included phone mount
  • βœ“ Good lighting (helps colorization)

Step 1: Power On

  1. Clip in a charged battery
  2. Press and hold the power button
  3. Wait for the scanner to initialize
  4. Open LixelGO and connect to the device

Step 2: Configure Settings

In LixelGO, set your preferences:

SettingRecommended
RTKEnable for outdoor / georeferenced work (built-in β€” configure your NTRIP/CORS account)
Coordinate systemWGS84 or CGCS2000
ColorEnabled

For indoor-only scans, RTK is not needed β€” the K2's SLAM engine with visual-aided positioning delivers 3 cm absolute accuracy without GNSS.

Step 3: Start Scanning

  1. Place the device on a stable surface and keep it stationary during initialization
  2. If using RTK, wait for a fixed solution before starting your path
  3. Tap "Start" in LixelGO
  4. Move more than 1 meter after initialization, then walk your planned path

Scanning Technique

  • Walk speed: Steady walking pace β€” no faster than about 1.2 m/s
  • Path: Overlapping loops; return to your starting point when possible
  • Movement: Smooth and deliberate β€” avoid sudden turns and shaking
  • Coverage: Watch the real-time point cloud fill in as you go

Step 4: Monitor in Real-Time

LixelGO shows:

  • Live colorized point cloud preview
  • Camera feeds
  • Battery, storage, and scan-range status
  • RTK / satellite status (if enabled)

Control Points (Optional)

Use the included control point base to record ground control points during the scan β€” useful for georeferencing, accuracy verification, and multi-scan map fusion.

Step 5: Complete the Scan

  1. Tap "Stop" in LixelGO
  2. The scan saves automatically
  3. Review the preview before leaving the site β€” check coverage and tracking quality

On-site verification is one of the K2's biggest advantages: you know the data is good before you leave the property.

Processing Your Data

The on-device output is a colorized preview. Desktop post-processing produces the final deliverables:

To LixelStudio (survey-grade point cloud)

  1. Connect the K2 to your computer via USB
  2. Import the project into LixelStudio
  3. Process to produce the survey-grade .LAS point cloud
  4. Export as .las, .ply, .E57, or .rcp

To Lixel CyberColor (Gaussian Splats)

  1. Process the project in LCC 2
  2. Export as .lcc, .lcc2, or .ply

To Splat Labs Cloud

  1. Upload your Gaussian Splat to cloud.splatlabs.ai
  2. Share, measure, and run AI features (floor plans, virtual staging) in the browser
